The Production Team
Yūki Hayashi (My Hero Academia, Haikyu!!) will compose the music for Witch and Hound. Director Takanori Tsujimoto leads the project at TriF Studio, a Fukuoka-based animation house. Tsujimoto's credits include the live-action Ultraman Arc series, the CG film Resident Evil: Vendetta, and the Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle anime film.
Kengo Saitō handles character design for the anime. Saitō works at Yostar Pictures, adapting concepts from original light novel illustrator LAM. Sub-director Okamoto, also from TriF Studio, rounds out the core creative team.
The most notable credit in the Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie's announcement is series composition: original author Rainy Kamitsuki will co-write the scripts alongside screenwriter Jun Tsukida (継田淳), who also handles individual episodes. Having the source author directly shape the anime's story structure is uncommon for light novel adaptations.
What Is Witch and Hound?
Witch and Hound is a dark fantasy published under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko light novel label since October 2020, with six volumes out as of December 2024. The story follows Roro, a young assassin known as the "Black Dog," who serves a lord in the small nation of Campusfellow. When the Kingdom of Amelia, which has monopolized sorcerers and uses them to invade neighboring lands, threatens Campusfellow's survival, Roro's lord devises a desperate plan: recruit seven dangerous "witches" scattered across the continent.
The teaser PV previews acrobatic combat between Roro and the "Mirror Witch" Teresalisa, a key character from the first volume. A manga adaptation by Minori Tsukahara also ran in Square Enix's Manga UP! app from 2023 to 2025, collected in four completed volumes.
Looking Ahead
Witch and Hound is scheduled to broadcast in 2027, though no specific season has been announced. No voice cast has been revealed yet.
For English-language readers, Yen Press will publish the manga adaptation's first English volume in November 2026, ahead of the anime premiere. No international streaming partner has been confirmed. The anime's official website and social media accounts are now live, with congratulatory comments from author Kamitsuki and illustrator LAM posted on the teaser site.
