Tomohito Takatsuka and Ryūichi Kijima Lead a Cast of Angels and Demons
Takatsuka (Minori Watanabe in The Idolm@ster SideM) plays Makoto Fuwa, the 26-year-old who takes a stranger up on the offer of a second run at high school. Kijima (Mitsuki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations) plays Thanatos, the death god whose fixation on Fuwa drives the entire story.
The rest of the announced cast fills out the school's non-human student body. Akinori Egoshi voices Metatron, Sōhei Horikane voices Belphegor, Yōhei Matsuoka voices Tōtetsu, and Kengo Kawanishi voices Uriel. Every named role apart from Fuwa is an angel, a demon or a mythological beast. Fuwa is the only human enrolled.
What an "Anicomi" Is, and Where the AI Comes In
This is not a conventional TV anime. Anicomi is a motion comic format developed in-house by Papyless, the company behind Japanese e-book rental service Renta!, and it works by adding movement and voice acting to existing manga panels rather than animating the story from scratch. Animation production is handled by Doraku, a studio whose stated specialty is manga-and-animation hybrid motion comic work.
For this project, Papyless says it supplemented the standard motion comic process with the latest generative AI technology on a portion of the cuts, aiming for a more substantial-looking result than earlier entries. The staff list backs that up. Alongside the usual credits, the production carries a combined "photography / AI photography" team of five, plus a drawing-assistance credit for Digital Shokunin Inc.
The rest of the staff list, per Japanese anime news site Anime! Anime!, credits 安藤圭汰 (likely romanized Keita Ando) as director, with Kapiko and Chika Itabashi on episode direction, Takahiro Enomoto as sound director, and Studio Mausu on sound production. RentAnime is credited as the production company.
The Setup: A Free Boarding School Where Everyone Else Is a Monster
Makoto Fuwa is 26 and carries trauma from his own school years. The story opens with a suspicious old man who looks like a mountain hermit handing him a high school application form in a park. The terms override the weirdness of the pitch. The school is fully residential and waives tuition entirely. Fuwa turns up at the entrance ceremony and finds a hall full of creatures from other species.
The one staring hardest is Thanatos, known as the warden of death. Fuwa assumes the god has come to take his life. What he gets instead is a muttered "Fuwa is so precious again today... let me worship him." Can he actually redo his youth in a classroom where nobody else is human, and where does the romance with a death god go? Those are the questions the manga has been running on since Renta! began distributing it in July 2024.
The original is written by Hare Takizawa with art by Taiyo no Taiyo: MANGA SHOKUNIN STUDIO, and it was Renta!'s first original BL vertical-scroll comic. The announcement came with a key visual and a teaser trailer, which was posted on the official Anicomi BL&TL YouTube channel.
Looking Ahead
TOKYO MX will broadcast the series from January 2027. The announcement gives no episode count, names no additional Japanese stations, and lists no streaming platform in Japan or abroad. No international distribution partner is attached at this point.
English-language readers do not have to wait for the broadcast to find out how it ends. Renta! runs an English store, and the manga is available there in full as Redoing My Youth In Another World -The God Of Death Is My Fanboy-, with all 32 chapters listed and the series marked complete. The announcement does not address whether the Anicomi version itself gets English subtitles.
